Alternative Energy Grants - Important Information
During his State of the Union Address in 2007, President George W. Bush
stated he wanted a 22 per cent increase in federal grants for the research
and development of alternative energy. Even though alternative energy grants
are a great idea, the president announced that there were some mixed signals
when it came to funding.
Those mixed signals were because the president was calling on more support
from the government for alternative energy research and development. In
Golden, Colorado, days before the public address, the National Renewable
Energy Laboratory had to decide to lay off a large amount of workers and
contractors. But soon after the State of the Union Address, the former
employees got their positions back. Such actions have increased the public's
support for the government investing in research grants, tax breaks and
other financial incentives of research and development of alternative energy
sources.

For those that don't know, the NREL is the nation's leading component of the
National Bioenergy Center. The NREL's raison d'etre is the advancing of the
U.S. Department of Energy and the United States' alternative energy
objectives. The laboratory's scientists and field researchers are said to
support critical market objectives to accelerate research from scientific
innovations to marketable alternative energy solutions. Alternative energy
grants have also helped the NREL's research and technology development
areas. These areas span from understanding renewable energy sources, to
converting energy sources to renewable electricity and fuels and using the
electricity and fuels in residential homes and vehicles.
The NREL is also set up to have several areas of expertise in alternative
energy research and development. By focusing on converting it's research and
development efforts into renewable sources of electricity, the organization
has been able to learn more about different types of energy. These include
wind power, solar power, biomass power and geothermal power. Along with
discovering different types of energy, the NREL also focuses it's research
and development on renewable fuels for vehicles. During their time, the
organization has been able to work with biodiesel fuels and hydrogen fuel
cells. By using alternative energy grants, they have also been able to
develop their plans for integrated system engineering. This includes using
alternative energy in buildings, transportation infrastructures and
electrical grids and delivery systems.
With alternative energy grants, the NREL has been able to conduct extensive
research on alternative energy sources. These sources may not seem like an
important discovery, but they can help the economy by providing less
expensive energy resources. Alternative energy grants may seem like they
only support the government, but they help power our economy and our
lifestyles.
